Fleeing Interior Minister ‘intercepted’ in Dakar

By Sanna Camara

Senegalese newspaper L’ Iberation this morning reports that notorious, longtime ally and  minister of Interior of The Gambia has been intercepted in Dakar as he attempted to fly out of the country following fallout with Gambian dictator.

According to news reports, Ousman Sonko told operatives he feared imprisonment following his removal as minister of interior last week which was why he left Banjul. He traveled by road, avoiding security installations on his way and relying on his contacts within Senegalese security to make it to Dakar.

Senegalese intelligence knew he was on the run and raised an alert for his detention on sight. He was later nabbed at the airport while attempting to board a flight out of the country, where he spent several hours under interrogation before being allowed to depart.
