Sanna Camara has been working as a journalist in The Gambia since 2001. He started as a reporter at The Independent newspaper from 2001 until 2006.
He later reported for Business Gambia (official publication of Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry) in 2006/07; Business Digest in 2008, and moved on to become the founder editor of The Daily News from 2009 to 2010.
In May 2011, Mr. Camara was recruited to work as assistant editor of The Standard, where he also worked as Chief Reporter until that paper’s closure at the height of the death row prisoner executions scandal in September 2012. Upon that paper’s re-opening for the third time in four years in 2014, Mr. Camara while working as a journalism co-trainer at The Gambia Press Union continued contributing to the paper until he fled into exile in August 2014.
He was freelance journalist for Today and The Point newspapers between 2010 and 2012, and was among the founding staff of The Gambia’s first School of Journalism as Course Coordinator and teaching assistant until his time of going into exile.
